PRIVACY ARCHITECTURE

Your books stay completely private.

The EPUB Reader was engineered around a single non-negotiable premise: reading, converting, and creating ebooks should never require sacrificing your personal confidentiality.

Last Updated: September 9, 2026

1. 100% Client-Side In-Browser Processing

When you open an EPUB, AZW3, or PDF document on TheEPUBReader.com, the file is parsed, rendered, or converted entirely within your device’s browser runtime memory via client-side Web APIs (including WebAssembly, FileReader, and Canvas).

Your documents are never transmitted over the internet to remote servers, cloud databases, external storage buckets, or third-party computing clusters.

2. No AI Model Scraping or Training

We do not feed, inspect, store, or train Artificial Intelligence (AI) language models with your literature, research manuscripts, or personal notes. Because our servers never receive your book bytes, no automated algorithms or scrapers have access to your reading material.

3. How Local Storage & Cookies Are Used

The EPUB Reader does not use tracking cookies, commercial ad trackers, or cross-site profiling tags. We utilize your web browser's local sandbox storage solely for functional reader preferences:

  • Reader Display Settings: Remembering your chosen theme (Light, Dark, Sepia), font size, font family, and page layout.
  • Reading Progress: Saving the chapter and scroll position of your active book locally on your device.
  • Local Bookmarks: Saving page bookmarks you explicitly create.
  • File Handover: Temporarily holding an uploaded file in IndexedDB during seamless page transitions between the home dropzone and reader or converter.

This data remains solely inside your web browser. You can clear this data at any time via your browser’s "Clear Browsing Data" settings.

4. Server Infrastructure & Minimal Diagnostics

Like standard web hosts, our hosting infrastructure automatically generates basic technical request logs (such as IP addresses, browser user-agent headers, and request timestamps) strictly for DDoS prevention, rate-limiting, and uptime monitoring. These logs do not contain document contents, book titles, or reading activity.

5. User Rights (GDPR, CCPA & Global Regulations)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), users are entitled to control their personal information:

  • Because we do not require account registration, we do not store customer databases or personal profile records.
  • We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data to any third party under any circumstance.
  • You retain full rights to delete your local reader storage directly through your browser.

6. Children's Privacy

The EPUB Reader is a general audience educational and reading utility. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal data from children under the age of 13.
